Abby Huntsman is finally getting honest about her time on “The View”
When ABC daytime mainstay’s high-profile conservative co-host left in January 2020, she claimed it was to assist her father, Republican politician Jon Huntsman Jr., with his Utah gubernatorial campaign.
However, in her new podcast “I Wish Somebody Told Me,” the 35-year-old has exposed the real reason for her departure: The show’s workplace environment, she explains in Thursday’s premiere episode, “did not reflect my values” and was “rewarding people for bad behavior.”
Her rear-view revelations confirm rumors that spread across social media at the time of her departure, with many “The View” watchers guessing that, despite her purported political plans, Huntsman was really feeling the crush of the “toxic” environment which would later cause Meghan McCain to quit.
While Huntsman promises she’s “never going to write a tell-all book,” she makes clear in that she blames the “executives in charge” for creating an environment obsessed with “money and the tabloids … You would see people act in ways that were not okay, that was very much part of the toxic environment of ‘The View,’ and here we were going on the air criticizing others for toxic culture.”
Reps for ABC and “The View” reached out to The Post with the following response to Huntsman’s statements: “Twenty-two incredible women have had a seat on the panel and have worked in collaboration with the dedicated group of professionals on our staff. Abby will always remain a part of The View family and we look forward to continuing the conversation with her when she visits next month.”
Huntsman stressed that it was true that she went to work for her father after leaving — but added that she had already made up her mind to resign when he reached out to her about the opportunity on his campaign.
The moment she left the set, despite an alleged ominous “that was a mistake” text, she realized that her decision to leave the show had been a good one.
“When I was walking out of the building that day, I was living again,” she said. “I could breathe and feel myself breathing. I was present and I hadn’t been present for the almost two years I was there.”
Huntsman delved even deeper later on Thursday as she fought back tears during an interview with DailyMailTV, revealing that “The View” execs made her feel “threatened” and “isolated” during her time on the show.
“I remember looking at my daughter, Isabel, and I thought to myself: One day, if she comes to me and says ‘I am in a situation that is unhealthy for me and I have to get out,’ I want to tell her that I did that, too, and that I will be there holding her hand,” she told the outlet. “I did it for my own kids and I was so proud that I had the strength to walk away — because they told me when I left, “You will never find anything better than this.”
Meanwhile, her big reveals come on the heels of McCain’s new book “Bad Republican,” which includes tales of in-fighting between show co-hosts. Huntsman and McCain notoriously clashed while on the show, despite being old friends.
